Society thinks we are closing libraries. This is absolutely not the case; libraries are a priority area for our state.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by the Minister of Culture Adil Karimli during the public discussion held today by the Milli Majlis Culture Committee on the topic "The Current State and Development Prospects of the Library System".

"The Ministry of Culture conducts continuous monitoring of library structures."

According to him, sufficient information has been collected during the monitoring over the past 3 years.

"One of the main principles of cultural policy is ensuring accessibility. For this purpose, the goal is to expand the opportunities for both Azerbaijani citizens and guests visiting the country to easily access books and other cultural resources," noted A. Karimli.

Adil Karimli stated that the goal is not only to build new library buildings but also to form an effective service network that ensures access to books and information resources. According to him, research shows that the current library infrastructure meets only approximately 35 percent of the population's needs.

"The goal is to ensure that at least 95 percent of the country's population, and in the future all citizens, have equal opportunities to access books, scientific publications, and other information resources."

He noted that students and researchers in the regions should have the same level of access to scientific literature as users in Baku.
