General Assistant
Location: Azerbaijan, Offshore Rig
A vacancy has been raised externally for a General Assistant position as part of the Offshore Business Unit and is available for Azerbaijani citizens only.
The General Assistant, which is the entry position within Turan Drilling and Engineering Company, is responsible for carrying out general housekeeping and material handling operations for the drilling rig and, where appropriate, the platform.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Prepare drilling equipment prior to its use and maintain it while it is in storage.
- Maintain the drilling and deck areas on the installation in a clean and tidy state.
- Move drilling equipment and materials to and from the drill floor and around the installation in a safe and proper manner.
- Ensure that all tubulars are racked securely and safely.
- Assist with Platform Deck operations when instructed to do so.
- Assist with the installation and removal of BOP and wellhead equipment.
- Ensure that upon completion of a task or at the end of a work period, all equipment and tools are properly stowed.
- Carry out general housekeeping duties around rig, on pipe deck, in sack store, pump room, silo room and storage areas; i.e. cleaning and tidying-up of deck areas and stores, washing down decks, module structure and equipment and plant, maintaining paintwork, rust-scraping, priming, high-gloss painting, care of all drilling tools (cleaning, greasing, protecting, proper storing).
- Prepare tubulars for running-in (i.e. removing protectors, washing and greasing tubular threads, measuring and numbering of tubulars, assisting in running-in tubulars, etc.).
- Offloading and back loading boats where appropriate.
- Assist Derrickman and mud engineer in maintaining the mud system.
- Assist cleaning of bulk silos; assist around cement unit during cementing operations and clean equipment after completion of job.
- Prepare for rig skidding, assist in rig skidding, etc. Assist in area inspections.
- Relieve Pipe Operatives of the Drill Floor as and when required.
- Engage in hand over of tasks with back-to-back General Assistants at beginning and end of shift.
- Attend pre-shift, safety, pre-phase and similar meetings on or off shift as required.
- Ensure that all equipment under his/her control complies with statutory requirements and is maintained at all times in a safe condition or otherwise completely withdrawn from service.
- Follow constantly the Group Safety Policy / Procedures.
Requirements:
- High School/Higher Education - Industry recognized apprenticeship or training scheme.
- Offshore experience is advantageous.
- Knowledge of conversational Azerbaijani and English is mandatory.
- Experience in jobs related to manual dexterity, sense of balance and hand-eye coordination.
- The ability to take measurements and solve arithmetic problems quickly can also be required.
- Physical strength.

- Good interpersonal, communication and team working skills.
