Roughneck

Duties/Responsibilities:

• A roughneck typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
• Using machinery to drill, extract, and dispose of oil, natural gas, or other materials from the earth
• Communicating with team members to coordinate work activities
• Operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, forklifts, cranes, drill rigs, and derricks
• Extracting oil from wells by pumping it out of the ground
• Installing pipelines and other equipment to transport oil and gas
• Operating drilling rigs to penetrate layers of rock or other materials in order to extract oil or natural gas
• Installing and repairing pipelines and other equipment used in the drilling process
• Inspecting equipment to ensure that it is safe to use
• Installing safety devices such as blowout preventers to avoid accidents on drilling rigs

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Excellent mechanical skills.
• Thorough knowledge of oilfield machinery and repair.
• Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior workers.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid BOSIET
• Previous related experience preferred; on-the-job training provided.
