Roughneck
Duties/Responsibilities:
- A roughneck typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Using machinery to drill, extract, and dispose of oil, natural gas, or other materials from the earth
- Communicating with team members to coordinate work activities
- Operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, forklifts, cranes, drill rigs, and derricks
- Extracting oil from wells by pumping it out of the ground
- Installing pipelines and other equipment to transport oil and gas
- Operating drilling rigs to penetrate layers of rock or other materials in order to extract oil or natural gas
- Installing and repairing pipelines and other equipment used in the drilling process
- Inspecting equipment to ensure that it is safe to use
- Installing safety devices such as blowout preventers to avoid accidents on drilling rigs
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent mechanical skills.
- Thorough knowledge of oilfield machinery and repair.
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior workers.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid BOSIET
- Previous related experience preferred; on-the-job training provided.
