Civil Inspection Engineer

Location: Baku, Azerbaijan

Purpose:

Performs visual inspection all concrete structures, steel structures, buildings, drainage systems, pipe racks, towers, roads and yards, security fence and lighting foundations, stairways, handrails, and platforms, tank bunds and dikes, to determine the present condition of the structure and the extent of deterioration.

Functions:

Essential:

• Perform inspections of assigned civil structural items within designate assets, inspections shall primarily be visual inspections. Plan and carry out pre-surveys of equipment and where necessary identify preparation for inspection and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) requirements
• Responsible for conducting pre-inspection desk top study of provided inspection work packs to understand civil structural design features
• Produce and issue inspection reports documenting any inspection findings and follow up on the execution of the findings in accordance with Oceaneering and client practices
• Monitor all ongoing repair works activities and to ensure that the repair complies to the recommendations
• Coordinate with Senior Inspection Engineers, client area inspection and technical authorities on all outstanding activities
• Can evaluate, determine causes, and recommend ways to repair concrete and structural deterioration and defects
• Coordinate with all concerned personnel for technical, materials, scope of works and structural assessments
• Ensure that all records, files, and database are updated with all inspection work sheets, findings and status of repair

Non-essential:

• The list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake tasks that may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post
• Assist with any other duties as and when required
• Undertake specific projects as instructed by management

Qualifications:

Required:

• Degree in Civil Engineering (or Civil sub-discipline: e.g., Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:

• Minimum 5 years of related experience e.g., engineering, construction, quality control or operations and maintenance
• Building / facilities experience (P)
• Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend technical drawings, codes, and specifications (E)
• Must be familiar with QA/QC systems and procedures (E)
• Ability to generate a team approach to problem solving and a good communicator, both written and verbal (E)
• The Inspection Engineer must be familiar with international codes and standards such as IBC, UBC, BS, ACI, ASTM, AISC, and AASHTO (E)
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (E)

This position is considered SITE/INDOORS which is characterized as follows:

• Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions
• Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
• Includes exposure to contaminants
• Requires working in cramped workspaces and getting into awkward positions
• Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions
