Process Safety Engineer

Position summary
This position is responsible for process of identification of hazards, evaluating the risk of those hazards, and assist in the development of effective solutions to mitigate risk. Process safety engineer will be responsible to facilitate the process risk assessments and help develop safety operating practices to support plant operations, provide technical leadership and support to identify hazards, assess risks and provide cost efficient management solutions.
The Process Safety Engineer must be familiar with the Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) rule.
Job duties
- Complete process safety reviews and develop recommendations for addressing process safety issues.
- Provide risk assessment through the use of risk analysis techniques and tools.
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
- Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Safety Instrumented Level (SIL) identification studies on existing and new processes and track implementation of recommendations.
- Provide Management of Change (MOC) Process support for their respective areas.
- Support site PHA schedule and recommendation implementation plan.
- Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for process safety incidents and near misses in their respective areas.
- Conduct RCA recommendation reviews.
- Support reviews of Pre Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
- Ensuring Process Safety Principles and best practices are implemented early in the design phase of MOC package review.
- Support continual improvement of site process safety culture and knowledge.
- Providing consultation on process safety standards.
- Identification of process hazards, evaluating the risk of those hazards, and assist in the development of effective solutions to mitigate risk.
- Facilitate the process of risk assessments and help develop safety operating practices to support plant operations, provide technical leadership and support to identify hazards, assess risks and provide cost efficient management solutions.
- Lead & Participate in Process Safety Incidents Investigations
- Lead or participate during process safety reviews.
Typical skill requirements
Experience:
- 1 - 4 years’ experience working as a Process Safety Engineer.
- Experience within the Petrochemical industry is preferable.
Language skills:
- Advanced knowledge of Azeri and English
Technical skills:
- Knowledge of the technical support, troubleshooting and safety features of equipment.
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in high stress situations with a multi-cultural audience on a tight timeline.
- Knowledge on the Process Safety Management standards and practices.
- Ability to construct Bowtie diagrams.
- Ability to comprehend and review QRA studies.
- Ability to navigate in PHAPro.
Training & Education needed
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, Chemistry, or Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is essential.
