Occupational Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Azerbaijan, Onshore
A vacancy has arisen externally for an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor as part of the Onshore Business Unit and is available for Azerbaijani citizens only.
Reporting to Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Manager the Occupational Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for monitoring, investigating, reporting and advising on fitness to work issues and supporting Company strategy of managing work related injurious case, and facilitating the individuals return to work at the earliest reasonable point. This position is also supporting the development, implementation and continuing improvement of systems of work required by I) The risks posed to health, safety and the environment by company operations and II) Legislation.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- When requested, make regular site / rig visits and carry out inspections, assessments, incident investigations and audits in line with Turan Drilling and Engineering and client policy / procedures and recommend remedial actions in writing, as appropriate.
- Ensure that all accidents and incidents are properly investigated and actioned.
- Carry out any safety training, for which qualified, as requested by management, including safety inductions.
- Provide relevant information on Health, Safety, Environment to employees.
- Maintain and produce health, safety, environment and quality statistics and records and monitor safe storage.
- Assist in preparation and review of all safety documentation.
- Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the Company applicable Procedures, and end-client specific requirements, where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with line managers in addressing absence management concerns.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationship with the client Health Team and site Medics in managing the work-related injury cases.
- Participate in Health and Safety promotions, campaigns, seminars, and deliver occupational health related trainings when required.
- Investigate any cases of injury / illness in the workplace with possible work association / causation and assist in the recognition and diagnosis of occupational diseases.
- When required to accompany an employee to ISOS clinic /or any other medical facility authorized by the company in case of medical referral/ evacuation.
- Assist QHSE department in evaluation of Workplace Occupational Health assessments and identification of control measures.
- Provide medical case management as a part of sickness absence management process.
- Advise on the effects of the employee’s health condition, and where appropriate give recommendations on what Company can do to help them back to work.
- Where relevant liaise with Company medical insurance provider to ensure that medical service is provided as per agreed contract.
- When required to Interview employee on their return to work, regardless of the absence duration.
- Accurately measure and report on the level, causes and reasons for absence.
- Use the data collected on individual absences to identify patterns and trends across the different work locations in the Company.
- Together with the HR team prepare and conduct attendance review meetings with employees whose absence levels are causing concern or if employee fails to provide sufficient notification of their absence.
Key Skills/Qualifications:
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills to explain health and safety processes to a range of people and to give presentations to groups.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective and inclusive working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
- Patience and diplomacy because the profession requires a collaborative approach.
- A flexible approach to work.
- An interest in the Occupational Health law and the ability to understand regulations.
- Ability to work as effective team member.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in medicine and recognised Safety qualification
- NEBOSH – National Examination Board in Occupation Safety and Health (desirable)
- Qualification in Occupational Health
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years Occupational Health experience preferably in oil and gas field
- Expertise in applied clinical health risk assessment and fitness for work determination.
- Appropriate knowledge of country health system
